2015 U11 Saxon Shore Cup – FCC Sharks Are Runners-Up!

The Folkestone U11 Sharks ended their successful 2015 season at Nonington CC on Sunday 2nd August in the Saxon Shore Cup Final. Folkestone Sharks batted first and in the face of some good line/ length bowling by the home team got up to a decent score of 260. At the half-time, some of the young players felt we may have been about 20 runs short – but nevertheless, they knew what they need to do in the field. Further sound captaincy by Henry Bridges (particularly with regard to managing his bowlers) was supported by solid bowling contributions from Jack Allen and Bill Norman, illustrating the importance of bowling line and length (particularly with the low bounce that was evident). Special praise should also be given to Izaak Bernard who kept very well on a wicket, with exceptionally low bounce.

In the face of some pretty vocal home support, the young Folkestone players continued to exhibit cricketing skills years well above their actual ages and managed themselves (and each other) admirably. Nonington levelled the scores with 3 balls remaining, scored a single of the penultimate ball and just managed to keep out the last ball from Henry Bridges, who bowled exceptionally quick and accurate. Nonington CC won by 1 run!

Given that this was the team’s only loss in the last 2 years – it demonstrates how each child continues to develop their individual game (and perhaps more importantly how they support each other in the field). We would also once again like to thank all of our parents for their consistent encouragement over the past season. Folkestone Cricket Club are exceptionally proud of all of our colts and the U11s are a significant part of the club’s future success.

Keep an eye out for communication with respect to the FCC Colts Awards Evening (Folkestone 25th September 2015)!
