Folkestone Cricket Club Colts News – Grant Awarded!

Folkestone Cricket Club (FCC) has long been Club Mark accredited as well as a Focus Club for Kent Cricket, which identifies us as a central point of the cricket community within our district. Folkestone have always been extremely supportive of our local community, in sharing our facilities and resources for school, district and county training and matches. During all of this time FCC has ensured that it has prioritised working with local schools, both primary and secondary and have demonstrated a desire to grow.

Early in 2015, the Kent Cricket Board (KCB) met with Folkestone Cricket Club to discuss our next phase in this journey, which included our desire to continue to grow our colts section and increase the number of softball cricketers at the club. The KCB has also worked closely with Folkestone Cricket Club to ensure that we have had all the necessary support to make this happen.

Part of this journey, has included partnering with Kent Sport ( The aim of the Kent Sport Small Grants Scheme, is to encourage and increase participation in sport and physical activity by residents within Kent County Council. Our partnering with Kent Sport has resulted with us being awarded with an U11 Team Kit Bag (as pictured with some of the U11s players). The kit bag consists of batting pads, gloves, bats and wicket-keeping protection – as wells as miscellaneous equipment such as stumps, balls, etc. Folkestone Cricket Club Chairman John Godden said of the award “…this is a tremendous achievement and very much aligned to the direction of the cricket club. Our committee is determined to enhance our colts training offering and continue to look at ways to improve grass roots cricket (through training/ upgrading equipment) for children in the local community”. He added that “…a special thanks must also be mentioned to Kent Sport for this generous offering and you will see from the photo – a number of children will be using it over the forthcoming months”.

With the FCC U11 team winning their league and being runners-up in their respective cup, the future looks bright for this age group now that they have the equipment to match their talent!
