Folkestone CC has sadly lost a great cricketing legend in David Brickell, who passed away recently.
As you will know, Dave was a loyal playing member and then a long standing Vice President of our club. He enjoyed a prolific playing record for FCC dating back to the early 1960’s.
Dave was a quality left handed opening Batsman of great repute and a more than handy slow left arm bowler, who had a unique style, taking many important wickets, specialising in ‘Chinamen’ and other assorted deliveries.
He was also an excellent close to the wicket fielder and an important member of the 1st team dressing room in a strong side of talented and experienced players.
I believe he accummulated 62 scores of 100 plus over the course of his pre Kent League career, including the unique record of making 3 consecutive Tons against Enfield at Cheriton Road across 3 highly successful and run-laden Summers.
Following his retirement from the club game, he played golf to a good standard and was a member of Sene Valley GC.
He was a great character in a strong dressing room and will be greatly missed by his old team mates and many friends.
He leaves a widow Joan.
