Folkestone Cricket Club are planning to create a new “girls only” section at the club this season.
Our aim is to widen the participation of children playing cricket in our community whilst also offering Kent’s girls a chance to engage with things they have missed during the COVID-19 pandemic or may not have felt confident enough to participate in previously.
Our initial approach is to contact local schools offering them a free taster session for girls.
We will then provide structured outdoor training sessions from May to the end of August at our excellent facility at Three Hills Sports Park.
With the success of the recent ECB’s Hundred competition (especially in promoting the women’s’ game), there has been an increase in enquires to the club about girls cricket which the club is keen to support.
Heather Southgate, a qualified coach at Folkestone Cricket club, is eager to deliver fun and safe training sessions to girls who have shown an interest during our taster sessions.
As well as training we are keen for the girls to play in competitive matches – we will start off with softball matches against other local teams before progressing to hardball matches when the girls are ready.
New members are always welcome, whether you are an experienced player or want to stay fit and healthy or just want to be part of a fun social group and give cricket a try.
Summer outdoor training will run on Monday evenings (18:00 – 19:30) at Three Hills Sports Park from May to August.

A big thanks to KCC’s Reconnect Programme for providing a grant to make tis possible.
Reconnect is a Kent County Council led, community based programme designed to get Kent’s children and young people thriving following the pandemic.
Clubs, businesses and organisations have come together to create fabulous opportunities for children and young people. Together they can have fun, catch up on missed learning, engage in sports and activities, trips and experiences, receive mental health support, regain their confidence and gain access to career development opportunities.
